FTP clients just don't get any better than this. FileZilla handles conventional FTP and SFTP, and regular and SSL connections, and it connects through all varieties of networks and environments. That includes proxies and passive connections. It doesn't fall down even when you're transferring thousands of files.

Free and open source, FileZilla shows no signs of ever becoming otherwise. It works on Mac OS X 10.5 and up, Windows XP and up, and most flavors of Linux.
