THE REAL VCs
Fleury lived with his in-laws rent-free in Atlanta for several months after the dot-com bust, writing a JBoss training curriculum that helped launch the company, now based there. "My in-laws financed JBoss."

2

WHAT'S OUT
Fleury has sworn off BlackBerrys. "The phone was crappy, and the E-mail was too addictive. I don't need to do E-mail while I'm out having dinner."

3

WHAT'S IN
His PlayStation Portable with favorite games Ratchet & Clank, Medal of Honor, Grand Theft Auto, and Shinobi II--Nightshade. "I don't travel without it." Most recent trip: JBoss World last week in Barcelona.

4

HOME STRETCH
A goal before the year's end is developing a partnership with his fellow Southerners at Red Hat, in Raleigh, N.C. "Large IT organizations are ready for a change, and open source embodies that change."

5

WHY OPEN SOURCE WINS
It puts the customers in the driver's seat, because now they have access to the code. Vendors have to stay on top of their game. "Every year is an election year with our customers."
