Mozilla Corp. will update the Firefox browser Tuesday to patch an unknown number of security vulnerabilities in the 1.5 and 2.0 versions.

Firefox 1.5.0.9 and 2.0.0.1 -- the latter the first update to Firefox 2.0 since that browser debuted in October -- will be posted on Mozilla's update servers between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. PST. By 10 a.m., however, the new versions are to be available for manual downloading from the Mozilla site. The number and severity of the patched security vulnerabilities were not known early Tuesday.

Firefox 1.5, which was last updated in early November to 1.5.0.8, will be dropped from Mozilla's support list in April.

Versions for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux will be released simultaneously, as is Mozilla's practice. According to Mozilla developers, the Windows updates have been tested and work as expected in Vista.
