InformationWeek Presents 'Get To The Point'

At this year's InformationWeek Conference, host Brian Gillooly (Center) moderated the popular "Get To The Point" segment, which pits two technology whizzes against one another. This year's topic was Youth Verses Experience. Joe Masters Emison, CTO of BuildFax (Left), matched wits with Toby Redshaw, (Right) former CIO of American Express, now CEO of Kevington Advisors. Topics ranged from shadow IT to how to deal with insider threats.

Interesting. I only heard of password and welcome from the high rank of passwords. I was actually surprised by 123456.

"IT is hard"
My favorite quote: "IT is hard."

I'm going to use this.  And the ship building analogy.  It's so true, and if we can get our users to understand that, our jobs would be 1000 times easier.  I think.

Re: "IT is hard"
@Technocrati: Get on that asap!  Could catch on like wildfire!  I could never get away with saying this in my organization.  I assume if you were to say this, the average user would think, "Well you just don't know what you're doing then."  Most just don't get it.  The road to "heck" is paved with good intentions, as they say.

Our CIO recently attended the Executive Retreat at which all of our domestic offices were present with all sorts of VIPs.  During a presentation, the power went out at the hotel.  Everyone turned around and looked at her.  Her response was priceless, "I don't run the power company."  Bravo.

Re: "IT is hard"
No doubt.   Already doing the leg work on a trademark.   Who knew trademarks were so expensive ? Well I think this one is going to be worth it.

And good point, you say this to an average user and they miss the point entirely. And once you have condensed months of research into two lines they can understand, then of course, "IT can't be that hard ".

I think that is the next trademark I buy.

IT: Who Exactly Is Underperforming ?

Some Researchers indicate Up to 70% of IT is underperforming ?

I always find these types of claims very interesting.  Who is claiming this ?  Do they understand anything about IT ?

Probably not, sounds like business managers who have a limited understanding of IT or anything else for that matter.

The Enterprise: Talent is as Talent Does .....

....Below average people in the Enterprise because all the talent goes to where the money is.

I can't believe this was finally admitted by one of the debaters !

I have always thought the Enterprise was overrated as far as internal ability is concerned and it looks like the times have finally caught up with my long held view.
