Brief: SAP Unveils Enterprise Search

Slated for commercial availability in 2007, the new application reportedly goes beyond text-based searches by considering the enterprise's schema and data model, as well as the role, preferences, and intentions of the person conducting the search.
SAP AG on Tuesday unveiled a search application capable of delivering results pulled from across corporate business systems to either a browser-based or desktop user interface.

SAP Enterprise Search is available for developers to download immediately, with commercial availability planned for 2007, the German company announced at its TechEd conference in Las Vegas, Nev.

The new application, which uses the main search engine within the SAP NetWeaver platform, goes beyond text-base searches by considering the enterprise schema and data model, as well as the role, preferences and intentions of the person conducting the search. As a result, the software can be configured so an information worker can move directly from a set of results into a business transaction, report or workspace.

SAP Enterprise Search is accessible through a browser-based user interface or a desktop widget. SAP plans to embed the application in mySAP ERP 2005. The company also plans to deploy the software on an SAP appliance, as an enhancement to company's business intelligence accelerator.
