IAnywhere Boosts Scalability In New Database

SQL Anywhere Studio offers enhanced synchronization with corporate database systems, improved scalability, and additional security and usability features.
IAnywhere Solutions Inc., Sybase Inc.'s mobile-computing subsidiary, this week will ship a new release of its SQL Anywhere Studio database for mobile and embedded applications. Version 8 of the software offers enhanced synchronization with corporate database systems, improved scalability, and additional security and usability features.

Cbord Group, an Ithaca, N.Y., developer of software for food-service companies, builds SQL Anywhere Studio into its software. Those customers are deploying Cbord's software on increasingly larger scales, says Cbord product manager Leo Tohill. "So it's important that (SQL Anywhere Studio) be able to scale up," he says. Cbord has been beta testing the iAnywhere product for five months, and Tohill says it "looks solid."

Version 8 can now handle many complex queries six times faster than previous versions. That, combined with advanced index type and new bitmap table page lists, boosts the software's performance and scalability. New priority synchronization capabilities and use of Java synchronization logic improve the product's ability to synchronize corporate databases with mobile devices. Security is enhanced through better local data encryption and authentication. And usability is improved through a new graphical query plan display and new administration and troubleshooting tools.

SQL Anywhere Studio 8 is priced at $399 for individual users or $999 for 10 users.
