U.S. State Dept., NYPD Join Podcasting Bandwagon

The two are the latest government entities to broadcast safety tips, speeches, and other information to the public.

The U.S. Department of State and the New York City Police Department have joined the growing number of government entities using podcasts to reach the public.

The NYPD began broadcasting safety tips, press releases and information about street closures this week. Its podcast can be accessed from the NYPD website.

The State Department announced its podcast launch Thursday. It features briefings and speeches by senior officials, including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and is posted on the Free Government Information Web site.

The Free Government Information site links to several podcasts from local, state and federal departments and offices. They include: NASA, the White House, the National Institute of Standards and Technology Physics Laboratory, and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, among others. The site also contains a link to Voice of America.
