Keep in mind, Samsung is talking about shipments to its retail partners, not sales to individual customers. Samsung has not said how many GS4s have made it to the hands of actual people.
The Galaxy S 4 reached the 10 million-shipped milestone much faster than its predecessors. It took Samsung about 50 days to ship 10 million Galaxy S IIIs, five months to ship 10 million Galaxy S IIs, and seven months to ship 10 million Galaxy S smartphones. Samsung had predicted that it would reach the 10 million milestone with the GS4 by the end of May, but hit that mark a few days early.

The device is being sold in 110 countries and will eventually be sold in 155.
Samsung foe HTC says it's moving lots of HTC One devices. An HTC executive told the Wall Street Journal that HTC has shipped about 5 million Ones so far in the six weeks or so since it launched.
"Orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply," said the exec. "This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it's doing really well or not."
Strong sales of the One are vital to the company's success. The phone has personal significance for CEO Peter Chou, who vowed to step down from his leadership role if the One doesn't revive the company's sagging sales.
Shipments of Samsung's smartphone are double those of HTC's, but HTC has still made a strong showing considering the production problems that constrained supply and delayed the launch.
The GS4 has a 5-inch 1080p HD screen, 1.9-GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, 13-megapixel camera and tons of customized software. The One has a 4.7-inch 1080p HD screen, a 1.7-GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and a 4-ultrapixel camera. Both devices run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and have user interfaces that are heavily customized by Samsung and HTC.
