The Tibco Spotfire DXP 2.0 includes a new Web client for knowledge workers to access analytics tailored to their jobs. The upgrade also includes a new software development kit that enables developers to build extensions to the platform.
In addition, Tibco has also released client and server application programming interfaces (APIs) to support custom application development, mash-ups, and other business process integrations.
The Spotfire platform is strong in data visualization, offering more options than just pie charts and graphs in presenting analytics. Besides running in a browser, Spotfire dashboards can also run in a Windows client built with Microsoft's .Net framework.
The Sportfire DXP 2.0 is available now. Pricing was not disclosed.
Tibco, a maker of business process management software, completed the acquisition of Spotfire last month. Until then, Tibco focused mostly on service-oriented architecture and integration technology for business events and activities and BPM.
The purchase followed an industry trend of combining business intelligence and BPM. Other examples included Business Objects buying Nsite late last year.
The Spotfire acquisition, however, was unique in that it was the first merger between a pure-play middleware vendor and a pure-play BI vendor, according to Forrester Research.
