New Software Treats Y2K Bug As A Virus

Trend Micro Inc. and Centennial Ltd. yesterday unveiled aY2K remediation product that treats checking for Y2Kcompliance as an antivirus scan. The vendors have partneredto produce the Y2K Scanner, a plug-in module to TrendMicro's InterScan VirusWall antivirus software.

By checking incoming and outgoing E-mail attachments, Y2KScanner can detect noncompliant messages and then alert therecipient and the sender about possible problems. InterScanblocks viruses at the Internet gateway, protecting serversand desktops from malicious code. Centennial makes anapplication for centrally managing, testing, and monitoringcompliance activity associated with desktop Y2K remediation.

Y2K Scanner will be available next quarter through TrendMicro distributors for a suggested price of $175 for 50users.
