Sun Unveils Upgrade Of Thin-Client Platform

Sun Microsystems unveils an upgrade of its thin-client platform.
Sun Microsystems Inc. on Monday unveiled an upgrade of its thin-client platform, which enables access to corporate applications and data through broadband-enabled home and satellite offices.

In addition to releasing Sun Ray Server Software 3.0, Sun also introduced a new desktop thin-client called the Sun Ray 170.

New features in the Sun Ray Server include support for the Linux operating system and support for smart-card middleware applications from Sun and third-party vendors, officials with the Santa Clara, Calif., computer maker said. Sun Ray 170 includes a 17-inch flat panel and requires no configuration.

Sun Ray Server Software 3.0 starts at $99 per seat, and the Sun Ray 170 sells for $1,049.
