Nokia's Comes With Music Customers To Get Free Music From Sony BMG

The service is expected to launch in the second half of 2008 on a range of its devices in selected markets.
Nokia's Comes With Music customers will get one year of free access to Sony BMG's music catalog.

Nokia and Sony BMG announced this week that consumers will be able to download tracks to mobile devices and computers through Nokia's music store for a year. After that, consumers can keep the tracks by upgrading the service. The companies said that music fans will be able to transfer downloaded songs onto new devices and computers and keep their downloads for life.

When the Comes With Music subscription ends, customers can still purchase new tracks from Nokia's music store. They can also select an "unlimited access" subscription service to obtain new releases and tracks not downloaded during the first year.

Nokia said that Comes With Music is expected to launch in the second half of 2008 on a range of its devices in selected markets.

"Our collaboration with Sony BMG means we can offer a huge range of fantastic music from both international and local artists via Comes With Music," Tero Ojanpera, executive VP of Nokia Entertainment and Communities, said in a news announcement. "It's great to have them on board as we move forward with bringing our unlimited music bundle to the market."

Ojanpera said Nokia Comes With Music will help music fans discover music, while expanding business and revenue for artists, labels, and rights holders.

"We think this business model will encourage users to sample a wide range of material, expand their musical tastes, and listen to more music than ever before," Thomas Hesse, president of Global Digital Business & U.S. Sales for Sony BMG, said in a prepared statement. "In the process, we think it will provide new opportunities to artists from every genre of music, and increase demand for music overall."

Universal Music's catalogue will also be available through the service, which was announced in December.
