Dell Debuts Extra-Quiet Dimensions

Dell debuts two new desktops that boast extra-quiet operation, the Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker said.
Dell on Tuesday debuted two new desktops that boast extra-quiet operation, the Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker said.

The Dimension 5100, a tower configuration, and the 5100C compact system incorporate Balanced Technology Extended (BTX) specs and Dell's QuietCase technology. Together, they reduce cooling requirements, and thus the size and speed of necessary fans, and dampen what sound the fans and hard drives do produce.

The Dimension 5100C, whose chassis takes the tape at under a foot tall and about four inches wide, can be configured with Intel's dual-core Pentium D processor, while the larger tower 5100 maxes out at a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 chip. Both can pack up to 4GB of memory.

The 5100 starts at a price of $899, while the 5100C begins at $1,049. Both are available immediately from Dell.
