Manipulation 101
Pebble's campaign and subsequent funding is a great way to learn how to generate VC.  All you have to do is make big promises and appeal to delusional people with more money than brain matter.

Re: Proof of early adoption
The fact that the Pebble doesn't depend on a smartphone also helps.

Proof of early adoption
I'm happy that Pebble was successful with their first go-around of the smartwatch market, and to see slight tweaks such as colour and a microphone will definitely help make them a strong player as more smart watches come out.  I think one of the early strengths is that the app market is strong for Pebble, which makes it a compelling product (and probably explains why they got so much support so quickly for this second round).

Ofcourse, having a low price point helps too when compared to other smartphone manufacturer offerings such as the to-be-released Apple smartwatch.
