Today at CTIA Wireless, Palm announced that it is providing an update for Windows Mobile users of the Treo 750. The update includes Windows Mobile 6 and a software key to upgrade the radio to HSDPA speeds. The Treo 750 has been shipping with the Windows Mobile 5 platform for some time now. It has also been limited to UMTS speeds. This update being provided by Palm will let users update their operating system to Windows Mobile 6.

This is good news for enterprise users, who might otherwise have been stuck with buying a new device to get the updated operating system. It's also good news for IT managers, who will be able to avoid a mass expenditure to upgrade their existing devices' operating systems.

The update also will switch on the HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) capabilities of the Treo 750 for AT&T users in the United States, which will boost its 3G wireless data speeds over the UMTS speeds that the current line of 750s use.

Palm said the update will be available later this year, and didn't go into detail on the logistics of how the updates would be performed.
