VMware customers will surge, Debian will become the vendor-neutral platform, and instability will lose its cool factor.

VMware can beat Red Hat in making OpenStack installations. That's may be true, given VMware's strength in the virtualized data center and enterprise IT's desire to convert that infrastructure into a private cloud. In that sense, OpenStack is VMware's back door into the cloud. The front door is its own vCloud Suite. On the other hand, if enterprise IT decides the public cloud is heavily open source, maybe it should be too, Open source from some other source than VMware OpenStack may then look like the right option. Red Hat is always available. I'm not convinced all VMware customers will simply follow VMware into the cloud. (Mirantis, of course, is a VMware partner for OpenStack installations.)
