"Prescriptive" open source stacks
The key word here is "prescriptive" or opinionated open source software stacks known to work together for the task at hand. Instead of deciding everything yourself, you buy into an experts opinionated assembly and it will work in known ways, according to standards.

Re: "Prescriptive" open source stacks
Exactly.  It makes sense.  If you look at for example, the issues that OpenStack is going through right now trying to simplify the stack itself and included services and streamline modules so that it becomes more user friendly, and you'll see why this is so crucial, despite it looking like it goes against the Open Source philosophy of having more open selection from a large community of application developers.  We need standardization to help drive better and more indepth adoption, so this is a great step towards helping create that.

Cloud native maturity model
I had previously written about the Open Data Center Allaince (ODCA) cloud application maturity model. I thought that it provides a good framework for evaluating the cloud native-ness of an app. Since the site does not allow posting links - search for "cloud native maturity model" for more details.
